High School Service-Learning Experience
High School Service-Learning Experience
To participate in our High School Service-Learning Experience, students must be sophomores, juniors or seniors in high school. A typical volunteer commitment is a two and a half-hour shift, twice a month, for one year. Volunteer schedules will vary based on the areas chosen to pursue.
Interesting, flexible volunteer work
The high school service-learning program offers rewarding ways to give back to others and build skills. Different scheduling options make it easy for you to balance school and other activities. During your time in the high school service-learning program you may volunteer in the following areas:
Nutrition Services
Nutrition Services volunteers help collect menus from patients' rooms.
Patient companions
Volunteer to visit patients at Community Hospital who may have limited or no visitors. In their rooms, you'll offer companionship by playing games, offering art activities, or having a conversation.
Visitor Services
After receiving training, reception desk volunteers:
- Greet visitors and answer questions
- Help with patient transportation
- Provide directions to rooms and departments
- Accept and deliver flowers
- Perform other duties
Gift Shop on the Go
Volunteers visit the nursing stations throughout Community Hospital to sell select items from our Comforts Gift Shop Cart.
